FARGO, N.D. (Interstat) — A Summit League men’s basketball matchup featuring teams at opposite ends of the standings will take place Saturday when North Dakota State hosts Missouri-Kansas City at Scheels Arena. The Bison (22-6) enter the contest as one of the conference’s top teams, riding momentum from a 74-66 road win over rival South Dakota State on Wednesday. NDSU has won eight of its last nine games. Meanwhile, the Kangaroos (4-22) are mired in a 10-game losing streak, most recently suffering a 104-64 home defeat to St. Thomas on Feb. 14. North Dakota State, which sits near the top of the league standings, will look to continue its dominant form behind guard Damari Wheeler-Thomas. He is coming off a 23-point performance against South Dakota State and has averaged 17.8 points over his last four contests. The Bison’s balanced attack also features forward Noah Feddersen, who scored 19 points in the last outing. Missouri-Kansas City will rely on guard Jayson Petty to try and spark an upset. Petty is averaging 9.8 points over his last six games, including a 16-point effort against Denver on Jan. 28. The Kangaroos have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 86.5 points during their losing skid. The teams last met on Jan. 8 in Kansas City, where North Dakota State secured a decisive 97-73 victory. The Bison have won the last 12 meetings in the series. A win would bolster NDSU’s position for the upcoming Summit League Tournament, while UMKC seeks to find a positive result to build upon in the final weeks of a difficult season. Following this game, North Dakota State will travel to face St. Thomas on Thursday, while Missouri-Kansas City will host South Dakota State.
