(Interstat) — A surging Central Arkansas team looks to extend its winning streak when it visits Florida Gulf Coast in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Alico Arena. The Bears (18-10, 12-3 ASUN) enter on an eight-game winning streak, their latest an 88-76 road victory at Stetson on Thursday. Central Arkansas has not lost since Jan. 24. The Eagles (13-15, 8-7), meanwhile, have won three of their last four, including an 86-84 home win over Jacksonville on Wednesday. They seek to protect their home court and improve their position in the conference standings. Central Arkansas is led by guard Camren Hunter, who is averaging 26.4 points over his last five games. He scored 30 points with six assists in the win at Stetson and has topped 30 points four times during the Bears’ streak. Florida Gulf Coast will counter with forward Isaiah Malone, who is coming off a 24-point performance against Jacksonville. Malone has provided a consistent interior presence, scoring in double figures in five of his last seven contests. In the teams’ first meeting this season, Central Arkansas edged Florida Gulf Coast 85-83 on Jan. 1 in Conway, Arkansas. Hunter led all scorers with 31 points in that game. The Bears have been dominant during their streak, winning by an average margin of 13.5 points. Their offense has been particularly potent, scoring 84 points or more in six of those eight victories. Florida Gulf Coast has shown resilience at home, where it is 9-5 this season. The Eagles’ recent wins over Jacksonville and Stetson at Alico Arena were both decided by two points. Saturday’s contest is a critical late-season conference game. Central Arkansas aims to solidify its hold near the top of the ASUN standings, while Florida Gulf Coast looks to build momentum ahead of the conference tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
