AVALON, Miss. (Interstat) ā A struggling Mississippi Valley State squad seeks to halt a 12-game losing streak when it hosts Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference menās basketball matchup Saturday at LeFlore County Civic Center. The Delta Devils (1-26, 1-11 SWAC) have not won since a 48-46 victory over Florida A&M on Jan. 19. Their most recent outing was a 72-62 home loss to Prairie View on Thursday, in which Michael James scored 20 points. James has been a consistent bright spot, averaging 24.4 points over his last seven games, including a 32-point performance against Jackson State on Feb. 7. Texas Southern (9-15, 7-5) arrives with momentum from a 74-73 home win over Southern on Monday. The Tigers have won four of their last six conference games to climb the SWAC standings. Guard Jaylen Wysinger, who poured in 28 points in the narrow victory over Southern, leads Texas Southern. He is averaging 16.9 points per game over his last seven contests. Zytarious Mortle added 25 points in the win. The Tigers dominated the first meeting this season, routing the Delta Devils 84-51 in Houston on Jan. 12.
