LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Interstat) — A surging Louisville squad will look to rebound from a rare setback when it hosts a struggling Georgia Tech team in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball matchup Saturday at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals (19-7, 10-5 ACC), coming off a 95-85 road loss to SMU on Tuesday, had won six of their previous seven games. That hot stretch was fueled by high-scoring guard Mikel Brown, who is averaging 24.6 points over his last eight contests. Brown erupted for 45 points in a blowout win over NC State on Feb. 9 and followed with 29 points in the loss to SMU. Louisville’s potent offense, which put up 118 points in that NC State game, will face a Georgia Tech defense that has allowed 89.3 points per game during a seven-game losing streak. The Yellow Jackets (11-16, 4-12) are coming off a 94-68 home loss to Virginia on Wednesday. Georgia Tech’s primary bright spot has been guard Jaeden Mustaf, who has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games. He led the Jackets with 18 points against Virginia. However, the team has consistently struggled to find consistent secondary scoring and defensive stops during its skid. The Cardinals won the season’s first meeting, 84-69, in Atlanta on Jan. 3. Brown scored 21 points in that victory. For Louisville, a win is crucial to maintain position near the top of the ACC standings ahead of a tough road trip to North Carolina on Monday. For Georgia Tech, the game represents another opportunity to snap a lengthy conference slide that has defined its season. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. EST Saturday. Louisville will travel to face Clemson next Saturday, while Georgia Tech hosts Florida State next Saturday.
