Preview: Sacred Heart Pioneers at Fairfield Stags BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Interstat) — A quick-turnaround rematch highlights Metro Atlantic action Friday when the Sacred Heart Pioneers visit the Fairfield Stags at Webster Bank Arena. The teams met just over two weeks ago on Feb. 5, with Fairfield escaping with a 92-87 road victory. The Stags (16-11) will look to complete the regular-season sweep, while the Pioneers (12-16) seek to even the score and build on the momentum from their last outing, an 86-75 home win over Rider on Sunday. Sacred Heart will lean heavily on forward Anquan Hill, who has been on a scoring tear. Over his last eight games, Hill is averaging 20.3 points, including a 30-point, 10-rebound performance at Manhattan and a 21-point, 9-rebound effort in the win over Rider. He logged 40 minutes and scored 18 points in the first meeting with Fairfield. The Stags counter with their own standout in Declan Wucherpfennig, who is coming off a 23-point, 8-rebound game in a loss at Saint Peter’s. Wucherpfennig was efficient in the previous matchup against Sacred Heart, scoring 11 points in just 19 minutes of play. Fairfield’s balance was key in that win, with Brandon Benjamin (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Braden Sparks (15 points) also providing significant contributions. Fairfield has had the more successful season to date and holds a home-court advantage, albeit in a neutral-site arena in Bridgeport shared by both programs. The Stags have won four of their last six games. Sacred Heart has shown resilience, however, winning three of its last five, with the two losses in that stretch coming by a combined 12 points. The matchup pits Sacred Heart’s potent offense, which has topped 85 points four times in the last month, against a Fairfield squad that has held opponents under 70 points in three of its last five wins. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Friday, Feb. 20. Fairfield travels to Quinnipiac on Sunday, while Sacred Heart visits Marist.
