GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Interstat) — The North Dakota Fighting Hawks will look to steady themselves and solidify their Summit League standing when they host the struggling Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos on Thursday night at Engelstad Arena. North Dakota (15-14) enters the contest having dropped two of its last three, including an 83-66 home loss to North Dakota State last Saturday. The Fighting Hawks had previously won four of five, showcasing their potential in a tight conference race. Guard Greyson Uelmen has been a consistent offensive catalyst, averaging over 20 points per game in his last four outings and scoring 30 in a road win at Denver last month. Conversely, UMKC (4-22) is mired in a 10-game losing streak, with its last victory coming on Jan. 3. The Kangaroos are coming off a particularly difficult 104-64 home defeat to Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Feb. 14. Guard Jayson Petty, who scored 16 points in a Jan. 28 game against Denver, will be a key player for UMKC as it searches for a spark. The Fighting Hawks won the first meeting this season, 81-79, in Kansas City on Jan. 10. North Dakota will aim for the regular-season sweep behind Uelmen’s scoring and home-court advantage, where they are 10-4 this season. UMKC, which is 1-12 on the road, seeks to disrupt North Dakota’s rhythm and find a path to its first conference win since early January. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST Thursday. North Dakota will visit South Dakota State on Saturday, while UMKC travels to face North Dakota State.
