CHARLESTON, Ill. (Interstat) — A surging Morehead State looks to complete a regular-season sweep when it visits Eastern Illinois in an Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball matchup Thursday night at Lantz Arena. The Eagles (15-12) have won three straight and four of their last five, most recently defeating Tennessee State 94-86 on Saturday. Jon Carroll led the way with 18 points and nine rebounds, continuing a strong stretch for the junior. Over his last five games, Carroll is averaging 14.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, including a 22-point performance in a win over Tennessee Tech on Feb. 12. Morehead State’s offense has found its rhythm, averaging 79.3 points during the winning streak. Josiah LeGree, who erupted for 25 points against Tennessee State, and Davion Cunningham provide additional scoring punch. Eastern Illinois (11-16) snapped a two-game skid with a 78-72 home win over Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday. Panthers guard Zion Fruster filled the stat sheet with 17 points, six assists and four rebounds in the victory. Fruster, a dynamic playmaker, has scored in double figures in seven of his last eight contests, including a 25-point outing at Southern Indiana last month. The Panthers will seek to avenge a 73-68 loss at Morehead State on Jan. 24. In that game, the Eagles used a balanced attack and held Fruster to nine points. Containing him will be a key focus for Morehead State’s defense. Eastern Illinois has struggled for consistency, particularly on the road, but is 8-5 at home this season. Morehead State, however, brings momentum and a superior conference record into the rematch. The Eagles’ recent offensive efficiency, paired with their earlier win over the Panthers, makes them a narrow favorite in a crucial late-season conference clash. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
