Preview: Eastern Washington Eagles at Sacramento State Hornets SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — Two men’s basketball teams riding opposite momentum trends will meet Thursday when the Sacramento State Hornets host the Eastern Washington Eagles in a Big Sky Conference matchup at Colberg Court. The Eagles (9-17, 4-5 Big Sky) enter on a four-game winning streak, their longest of the season, including an 84-66 home victory over Weber State last Saturday. The Hornets (9-16, 3-6), meanwhile, have lost three straight, most recently a 79-74 defeat at Northern Arizona. Eastern Washington’s surge has been fueled by guard Alton Hamilton. Over the last four games, all wins, he is averaging 16.8 points. He scored a season-high 24 points in the win over Weber State. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 75-67 Eagles win in Cheney on Jan. 24, Hamilton contributed 11 points and three assists. Sacramento State will counter with high-scoring guard Prophet Johnson, who has been a bright spot during the skid. He is averaging 23.3 points over his last three games and poured in a career-high 35 points in a 104-90 win over Weber State on Feb. 2. Johnson was held to 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting in the first matchup with Eastern Washington. Both teams sit in the bottom half of the conference standings and are seeking to build late-season momentum ahead of the Big Sky tournament. The Eagles have found a rhythm, winning tight road games at Montana and Montana State during their streak. The Hornets have struggled defensively, allowing an average of 89.3 points during their three-game losing streak. The game will tip off at 7 p.m. PST on Thursday, Feb. 19. Eastern Washington visits Portland State on Saturday. Sacramento State remains home to host Idaho on Saturday.
