JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Austin Peay squad will look to extend its winning streak against a struggling North Florida team when the ASUN Conference foes meet Thursday night at UNF Arena. The Governors (19-6, 11-1 ASUN) enter on an eight-game winning streak, their latest a 90-70 rout of Bellarmine on Saturday. They have not lost since Jan. 17 and sit atop the conference standings. The Ospreys (6-21, 4-8), meanwhile, have lost four of their last five and are coming off a 63-56 defeat at Jacksonville. Austin Peay, which joined the ASUN in 2022, dominated the first meeting this season, a 102-83 home victory over North Florida on Jan. 1. The Governors’ high-octane offense, averaging 84.2 points per game during their streak, will be guided by point guard Zyree Collins. The sophomore is coming off a 16-point, 14-assist performance against Bellarmine and has scored in double figures in seven of the last eight contests. North Florida will counter with forward Kent Jackson, who has been a bright spot in a difficult season. Jackson is averaging 19.4 points over his last five games, including a 32-point outburst in a narrow loss to Lipscomb on Jan. 31. He nearly posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds in the loss to Jacksonville. The matchup pits the conference’s best against one of its lowest. Austin Peay ranks first in the ASUN in scoring margin (+11.4), while North Florida ranks near the bottom in scoring defense, allowing 84.6 points per game. The Governors have won seven straight true road games. For North Florida, the game represents an opportunity to play spoiler and build momentum before its final regular-season homestand. For Austin Peay, it is another critical step toward securing the top seed for the ASUN Tournament next month. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
