TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging Alabama A&M squad looks to continue its climb in the SWAC standings when it visits Florida A&M on Thursday afternoon at the Alfred Lawson, Jr. Multipurpose Center. The Bulldogs (15-11, 9-4 SWAC) have won four of their last five, including a convincing 82-70 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday. Guard Kintavious Dozier led the way with 20 points in that win, continuing a strong stretch of play. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a 72-65 Alabama A&M win on Jan. 31, Dozier scored 20 points. Florida A&M (10-14, 6-7) is looking to build momentum after an 86-78 road win at Alcorn State on Monday. Guard Jaquan Sanders was instrumental in that victory, finishing with 17 points and eight assists. The Rattlers will need a similar performance from Sanders to avenge their earlier loss to the Bulldogs and improve their position in the conference. Alabama A&M’s recent success has been fueled by balanced scoring. Alongside Dozier, Koron Davis and James Graham each added 20 points in the win over Pine Bluff. The Bulldogs have shown potency, scoring 80 or more points in three of their last five games. The Rattlers have struggled with consistency, alternating wins and losses over their past six contests. Their defense, which held Alcorn State to 78 points last time out, will be tested by Alabama A&M’s offensive rhythm. Thursday’s matchup is key for both teams’ seeding aspirations with the SWAC tournament approaching. Alabama A&M sits in a tie for third place, while Florida A&M is in a three-way tie for seventh. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. EST tipoff.
