Preview: Vanderbilt Commodores at Missouri Tigers COLUMBIA, Mo. (Interstat) — The surging Vanderbilt Commodores, ranked eighth nationally, aim to continue their standout season when they visit the Missouri Tigers in a Southeastern Conference men’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Mizzou Arena. Vanderbilt (21-4, 11-2 SEC) enters on a high note, having won eight of its last nine games. The Commodores are coming off an impressive 82-69 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday, fueled by 23 points from guard AK Okereke and a game-high 25 from forward Tyler Nickel. Okereke has been a consistent offensive catalyst, averaging 14.3 points over his last seven contests, including a 33-minute, 23-point performance against the Aggies. Missouri (17-8, 7-6) looks to rebound from a tough 85-68 home loss to Texas last weekend. The Tigers had previously won two straight, including a dramatic 86-85 road win at Texas A&M. Guard Jayden Stone leads Missouri’s backcourt, averaging 14.6 points per game in February. He scored 22 points in a win at South Carolina on Feb. 7 and logged 40 minutes in an overtime victory over Oklahoma on Jan. 24. This contest pits Vanderbilt’s high-powered offense, which has scored 80 or more points in five of its last seven wins, against a Missouri team seeking stability at home, where it is 11-3 this season. The Commodores’ only losses since early January were by one point to Oklahoma and a road defeat at Arkansas. Missouri will need a strong defensive effort to contain Vanderbilt’s balanced attack, which saw three players score 17 or more points in the win over Texas A&M. The Tigers counter with their own scoring threats in Stone and forward Mark Mitchell, who had 16 points and 16 points, respectively, in the loss to Texas. Vanderbilt holds a commanding position in the SEC standings, while Missouri looks to solidify its postseason resume. The Tigers won the previous meeting last season, 72-61, in Nashville. Following this game, Vanderbilt hosts Tennessee on Saturday. Missouri travels to face Arkansas on Saturday.
