FAIRFAX, Va. (Interstat) — A surging George Mason squad aims to solidify its Atlantic 10 standing when it hosts a struggling Dayton team at EagleBank Arena on Wednesday night. The Patriots (21-5, 11-2 A-10) enter with one of the conference’s top records but are looking to rebound from back-to-back road losses at Richmond and George Washington. Their most recent outing was a 72-53 defeat at George Washington on Feb. 13, where Masai Troutman led the team with 15 points. Dayton (16-8, 8-5) snapped a five-game skid with a 70-59 home victory over Davidson on Sunday. The Flyers’ recent woes included a 102-71 rout at Saint Louis on Jan. 30 and a 99-73 loss at VCU on Feb. 6. A key matchup will feature Dayton’s Jaiun Simon against George Mason’s Masai Troutman. Simon is coming off a dominant double-double against Davidson, posting 11 points and 13 rebounds in 31 minutes. His performance was a bright spot in the Flyers’ recent slide, during which he had several limited outings. Troutman has been inconsistent for the Patriots, scoring 15 points in the loss to George Washington but being held to two points or fewer in four of his previous six contests. His ability to provide offensive support will be crucial for a George Mason team that has struggled to score in its recent losses. The Patriots won the first meeting this season, 69-64 at Dayton on Jan. 2. George Mason has relied on a balanced attack and stout defense, while Dayton has sought consistency beyond Simon and guard Keonte Jones, who had six assists in the Davidson win. With the A-10 tournament approaching, George Mason looks to protect its home court and maintain position near the top of the league. Dayton, meanwhile, is desperate for a quality road win to stabilize its season before hosting Duquesne on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Wednesday at EagleBank Arena.
