Preview: Saint Mary’s Gaels at Seattle Redhawks SEATTLE (Interstat) — The surging Saint Mary’s Gaels, ranked eighth nationally, look to extend their winning streak when they visit the Seattle Redhawks in a nonconference men’s basketball rematch Wednesday night at Key Arena. Saint Mary’s (23-4) has won five straight since its only loss in the past two months, a 73-65 defeat at Gonzaga on Jan. 31. The Gaels are coming off a 72-61 road victory at Pacific on Saturday, powered by a career-high 32 points from forward Paulius Murauskas. Murauskas has been dominant, averaging 20.1 points over his last seven games. His scoring prowess will be central against a Seattle defense allowing just 60 points in its last outing, a 60-50 win over Oregon State on Sunday. The Redhawks (16-11) have struggled for consistency but are 10-4 at home. Guard Jojo Murphy, who led Seattle with 11 points and three assists against Oregon State, will need to provide a spark. Seattle’s offense has been held under 55 points in three of its last six games. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. Saint Mary’s won the first matchup 93-76 at home on Jan. 4, a game in which the Gaels shot 54% from the field. For Seattle, a victory would represent a signature win to bolster its postseason resume. For Saint Mary’s, it’s a final tune-up before a critical stretch against Washington State, Santa Clara and Gonzaga to close February. The Gaels’ efficient offense, which has scored 79 or more points in four of their last five wins, will test a Seattle team that ranks 34th nationally in scoring defense. The Redhawks must improve their offensive output after shooting just 36.5% in the previous head-to-head loss. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
