PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) ā The Pepperdine Waves will look to build on a rare victory and complete a season sweep when they visit the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference menās basketball matchup Wednesday night at the Chiles Center. Pepperdine (7-20) snapped a seven-game losing streak with a dramatic 90-89 home win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday. The Wavesā last win prior to that was a 67-63 home victory over these same Pilots on Jan. 14. Portland (12-15) has lost two straight, including a 71-58 defeat at San Diego last Wednesday. The Pilots had won two in a row before the current skid, highlighted by an 87-80 upset of Gonzaga on Feb. 4. The Waves will lean heavily on guard Aaron Clark, who is coming off a career-high 33-point performance against Loyola Marymount. Over his last seven games, Clark is averaging 21.1 points, showcasing his role as Pepperdineās primary offensive threat. Portland counters with guard Dante Censori-Hercules, who posted 12 points and three assists in the loss to San Diego. The Pilots have relied on a more balanced scoring attack, with James OāDonnell and Joel Foxwell also providing consistent contributions. Despite their overall record, the Waves have proven capable against Portland this season. Winning at the Chiles Center, however, presents a different challenge. The Pilots are 8-5 at home this season, while Pepperdine is just 1-11 in true road games. A key battle will be on the boards. Pepperdineās Stefan Cicic had 13 points and six rebounds in the first meeting, and his interior presence against Portlandās frontcourt could be pivotal. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PST tipoff. Following this contest, Pepperdine travels to face Oregon State on Saturday, while Portland begins a two-game road trip at Seattle.
