(Interstat) — A pivotal Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball matchup featuring two of the league’s hottest scorers is set for Wednesday when the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers host the James Madison Dukes. The game at the HTC Center pits teams jockeying for position in the conference standings. Coastal Carolina (16-11) enters with a slightly better overall record, but James Madison (14-13) brings a wave of momentum, having won four of its last five games. The duel between standout guards will be the main attraction. James Madison’s Justin McBride is averaging 21.3 points over his last three contests, including a 21-point, 7-rebound performance in a 69-58 win over Appalachian State on Saturday. For the season, he has shown explosive capability, scoring 30 points in a game last month. He will be matched by Coastal Carolina’s Joshua Beadle, who is coming off a 29-point effort in a 69-65 road win at Louisiana-Lafayette last Thursday. Beadle has topped 20 points in four of his last seven games, including a 32-point outing in January. The Chanticleers have proven tough at home, winning three straight in Conway, including a dramatic 94-91 triple-overtime victory over Massachusetts on Feb. 7. James Madison, however, has found its rhythm in close games, with recent wins over Georgia State in overtime and a narrow victory over Toledo. This contest is the first of a quick home-and-home series between the teams. They are scheduled to meet again at James Madison just five days later, on Feb. 27, adding another layer of stakes to Wednesday’s showdown.
