HARTFORD, Conn. (Interstat) — The Connecticut Huskies, riding a wave of dominance in the Big East, will host the struggling Creighton Bluejays on Wednesday afternoon at the XL Center in a conference rematch. The Huskies (24-2, 12-2 Big East) enter as one of the nation’s elite, having won 10 of their last 11 games. Their only stumble in that stretch was a nine-point road loss to Saint John’s on Feb. 6. UConn boasts a potent and balanced attack, coming off a hard-fought 79-75 home win over Georgetown on Saturday. Forward Alex Karaban has been a consistent force, averaging 13.3 points over his last seven games, including an 18-point effort against the Hoyas. In the teams’ first meeting this season, a commanding 85-58 UConn victory in Omaha on Jan. 31, Karaban scored 15 points. Conversely, the Bluejays (13-13, 6-9) are mired in a difficult season, having lost five of their last seven games. Their most recent outing was a 80-69 home loss to Villanova on Saturday. Guard Josh Dix has shouldered a significant load for Creighton, averaging 13.7 points over his last seven contests. He was held scoreless in the January loss to UConn, managing only two assists in 29 minutes. The matchup pits the conference’s powerhouse against a team fighting to reach .500. UConn’s defense, which stifled Creighton to 58 points last month, will look to contain Dix and a Bluejay offense that has shown flashes but lacks consistency. The Huskies’ offensive arsenal, featuring Karaban, guard Solo Ball (20 points vs. Georgetown), and playmaker Silas Demary Jr. (15 points, 9 assists), presents a multifaceted challenge. A Creighton upset would require a dramatic reversal of their January performance and a near-perfect game. For UConn, it represents another opportunity to solidify its standing atop the league as the calendar pushes toward March. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST Wednesday at the XL Center.
