Preview: Boise State Broncos at Utah State Aggies LOGAN, Utah (Interstat) — The surging and eighth-ranked Utah State Aggies look to continue their dominant season when they host the Boise State Broncos in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball showdown Wednesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Utah State (22-3, 11-1 MW) enters as one of the nation’s hottest teams, having won 11 of its last 12 games. Their most recent outing was a commanding 99-75 non-conference victory over Memphis on Saturday. Guard MJ Collins has been a catalyst, averaging 16.1 points over his last eight games, including a 24-point, four-assist performance against Memphis. The Aggies’ lone conference loss was a 76-86 setback against UNLV on Jan. 20. They have since reeled off seven straight wins, firmly controlling the top spot in the league standings. Their defense has held opponents to 68.8 points per game during that streak. Boise State (15-10, 6-6) arrives seeking consistency and a signature road win to bolster its postseason resume. The Broncos are coming off a heartbreaking 86-83 overtime loss to UNLV last Friday, despite a career-high 27 points from sophomore forward Drew Fielder. Fielder has emerged as a primary offensive threat, averaging 17.1 points over his last seven contests. His scoring punch will be vital against a stout Utah State frontcourt. The Broncos have shown flashes, including a thrilling 91-90 road win at New Mexico on Feb. 7, but have alternated wins and losses in their last six games. History heavily favors the Aggies in this matchup. On Jan. 10 in Boise, Utah State delivered a 93-68 rout, a defeat that sparked the Broncos’ current period of uneven play. The Aggies have won four of the last five meetings overall. For Boise State, containing Collins and improving its perimeter defense will be paramount. The Broncos allow 74.2 points per game, a vulnerability Utah State’s efficient offense, averaging 82.6 points, is poised to exploit. The Spectrum, where Utah State is 13-1 this season, provides a significant home-court advantage. A win would further solidify the Aggies’ conference lead and national standing, while the Broncos aim to play spoiler and reignite their season with a monumental upset. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST Wednesday.
