Preview: Louisville at SMU in Key ACC Clash ABILENE, Texas (Interstat) — The surging Louisville Cardinals aim to extend their winning streak when they visit the SMU Mustangs in an Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball matchup Tuesday at Moody Coliseum. Louisville (19-6, 10-4 ACC) enters on a five-game winning streak, including an 82-71 road victory at then-Baylor on Saturday. The Cardinals’ offense has been potent, averaging 90.2 points during the streak. The Cardinals are led by guard Mikel Brown, who is averaging 24.7 points and 5.7 assists over his last three games. He scored 29 points with six assists in the win at Baylor and erupted for 45 points in a blowout of NC State on Feb. 9. Brown also scored 20 points in Louisville’s 88-74 home win over SMU just over two weeks ago on Jan. 31. SMU (17-8, 8-6) looks to rebound from a heartbreaking 79-78 loss at Syracuse on Saturday, a defeat that snapped a two-game win streak. The Mustangs have shown resilience at home, however, with recent wins over Notre Dame and Florida State in Abilene. Forward Jaden Toombs has provided a recent spark for SMU, coming off a season-high 19 points and five rebounds against Syracuse. His role has expanded following his limited minutes in the first meeting with Louisville. The Mustangs will need a stronger defensive performance after allowing Louisville to shoot 54% from the field in the January meeting. Containing Brown and complementary scorers like J’Vonne Hadley and Ryan Conwell, who combined for 34 points in the first game, will be critical. A win for Louisville would solidify its hold on second place in the ACC standings. For SMU, a victory would provide a crucial Quadrant 1 resume boost for its NCAA tournament hopes. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. CST. Louisville travels to face Georgia Tech on Saturday, while SMU hosts Boston College.
