LEXINGTON, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams tangled in the middle of the Southeastern Conference standings and desperate to halt recent slides will meet Tuesday night when the Georgia Bulldogs visit the Kentucky Wildcats at Rupp Arena. Both teams carry identical 17-8 overall records into the matchup and are looking to rebound from double-digit road losses this past Saturday. Georgia fell 94-78 at Oklahoma, while Kentucky dropped a 92-83 decision at Florida. The result extended both teams’ recent struggles; the Bulldogs have lost five of their last seven, and the Wildcats have split their last six contests. The game features a compelling backcourt duel between two of the league’s top scorers. Georgia will lean on guard Blue Cain, who is averaging 18.3 points over his last three games, including a 20-point effort at Oklahoma. For Kentucky, freshman guard Collin Chandler has been a consistent offensive catalyst, scoring 18 or more points in three of his last five outings. Chandler poured in 18 points in the loss at Florida. Interior play will also be critical. Kentucky’s Malachi Moreno is coming off an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double and provides a rim-protecting presence. Georgia will counter with the physicality of Somto Cyril, who had nine points and four rebounds against the Sooners. The Wildcats won the season’s first meeting, a 92-77 victory in Athens on Jan. 6, behind a balanced scoring attack. Kentucky holds a significant historical advantage in the series and is 11-2 at home this season. Georgia, just 4-5 in true road games, has not won at Rupp Arena since 2009. With the SEC tournament seeding tightening, Tuesday’s contest carries significant weight for both teams seeking to build momentum for the final stretch of the regular season. Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST.
