Preview: Texas Tech Visits Arizona State in Big 12 Clash TEMPE, Ariz. (Interstat) — The surging Texas Tech Red Raiders aim to continue their push atop the Big 12 Conference standings when they visit the Arizona State Sun Devils on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Texas Tech (19-6, 8-4 Big 12) enters on a three-game winning streak, most recently edging then-Arizona 78-75 in overtime on the road Saturday. The Red Raiders have won seven of their last nine, with their only losses in that span by a combined 11 points. Arizona State (13-12, 5-7) looks to build momentum after an 85-76 home victory over Oklahoma State last Tuesday snapped a two-game skid. The Sun Devils have struggled for consistency in conference play but are 9-4 at home this season. The matchup features a compelling battle in the frontcourt. Texas Tech is led by sophomore standout JT Toppin, who is playing at an All-American level. He scored 31 points in the win at Arizona, his third 30-point game in the last seven contests. Over that stretch, he is averaging 22.7 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 58% from the field. Arizona State will counter with senior forward Massamba Diop, a defensive anchor and efficient scorer. Diop is averaging 13.2 points and 3.2 blocks over his last five games. His ability to protect the rim against Toppin and the Red Raiders’ attack will be critical. Texas Tech’s backcourt, featuring Christian Anderson and Donovan Atwell who combined for 30 points against Arizona, provides balance. Arizona State relies on guards Noah Meeusen and Santiago Trouet, who each scored in double figures in the win over Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders won the first meeting this season, 88-74, in Lubbock on Jan. 3. Arizona State will need a strong defensive effort to avoid a sweep, as Texas Tech leads the Big 12 in scoring offense at 82.1 points per game.
