SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Nevada squad looks to solidify its standing when it visits struggling San Jose State in a Mountain West Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night. The Wolf Pack (17-8) enter the contest at the Event Center having won four of their last six, including a dominant 87-54 victory over these same Spartans just four weeks ago in Reno. Nevada is coming off a 71-57 road loss at San Diego State on Saturday but remains in the upper tier of the conference. San Jose State (6-19) seeks to end a seven-game losing streak, its most recent a 94-79 home defeat to Grand Canyon on Saturday. The Spartans have not won since Jan. 13. Nevada is led by guard Elijah Price, who is averaging 15.4 points over his last seven games. Price scored 17 points in the loss at San Diego State and had 22 points in a win over UNLV on Jan. 30. He was held to six points in the first meeting with San Jose State but contributed four blocks. The Spartans will rely on guard Colby Garland, who has been a bright spot during their skid. Garland is averaging over 20 points in his last four contests, including a 23-point, 7-assist performance against Grand Canyon. He scored 10 points in the earlier loss at Nevada. In the Jan. 20 matchup, Nevada’s defense stifled San Jose State, holding the Spartans to 32.8% shooting. Corey Camper led the Wolf Pack with 16 points in that game. For San Jose State to compete, it must improve defensively after allowing opponents to score 80 or more points in six of its last seven losses. Nevada has scored at least 87 points in three of its last five games. Following this game, Nevada hosts Utah State on Saturday. San Jose State travels to face Boise State on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST.
