Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Iowa Hawkeyes IOWA CITY, Iowa (Interstat) ā A surging Nebraska team aims to solidify its Big Ten title credentials Tuesday when the Cornhuskers visit the Iowa Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Nebraska (22-3, 12-2 Big Ten) enters with the conferenceās best record, riding high after a dominant 68-49 victory over Northwestern on Saturday. The Cornhuskersā three losses this season have come by a combined 12 points, including an overtime defeat to Purdue on Feb. 10. Iowa (18-7, 9-5), meanwhile, looks to rebound from a 78-57 home loss to those same Boilermakers on Saturday, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Hawkeyes are 12-2 at home this season. The matchup features two of the leagueās most dynamic guards. Nebraskaās Sam Hoiberg has been a model of consistency, averaging 13.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists over his last seven games. He posted 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win over Northwestern. Iowa will counter with Bennett Stirtz, a high-volume scorer who has averaged 25.9 points over his last seven contests. He poured in 36 points in a win over Northwestern on Feb. 8 and 32 in a road loss at Maryland on Feb. 11. Containing Stirtz will be a primary focus for a Nebraska defense that ranks among the nationās most efficient. In the first meeting this season, Nebraska won 90-55 at home over Oregon on Jan. 13, while Iowa secured an 84-66 road win at Oregon on Feb. 1. This will be the only scheduled regular-season meeting between the Huskers and Hawkeyes. For Nebraska, a win would maintain its grip on first place in the league. For Iowa, a victory would provide a crucial Quadrant 1 resume boost and keep pace in the upper tier of the conference standings. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Tuesday. Nebraska hosts Penn State on Saturday. Iowa travels to Wisconsin on Sunday.
