Preview: LSU Tigers at Texas Longhorns AUSTIN, Texas (Interstat) — Two Southeastern Conference men’s basketball teams on divergent paths will meet Tuesday night when the struggling LSU Tigers visit the surging Texas Longhorns at the Frank Erwin Center. The Tigers (14-11) arrive in Austin mired in a slump, having lost six of their last seven games. Their most recent outing was a 73-63 loss at Tennessee on Saturday. Guard Jalen Reece led LSU with 15 points in that contest, but his production has been inconsistent during the skid. Over the last seven games, Reece has scored in single digits four times. Conversely, the Longhorns (16-9) have won five of their last six, including an 85-68 road victory at Missouri on Saturday. That win was powered by a standout performance from forward Dailyn Swain, who poured in 25 points. Swain has been a model of consistency, averaging 24.5 points over his last four games and posting a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Oklahoma on Jan. 31. This matchup presents a stark contrast in momentum. Texas has found its rhythm in conference play, while LSU searches for answers to stop its slide. The Tigers’ defense will be tested by a potent Longhorns offense that has scored 79 or more points in four of its last five wins. LSU will need more offensive support around Reece. Pablo Tamba and Marquel Sutton, who added 13 and 15 points respectively against Tennessee, must provide scoring punch. Containing Swain will be the primary defensive challenge for a Tigers team allowing an average of 78.4 points during its 1-6 stretch. For Texas, maintaining its offensive efficiency and leveraging home court advantage are keys. The Longhorns have been strong at home in SEC play, with recent wins over Mississippi, South Carolina and Georgia by an average margin of 17 points. Tuesday’s game is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this season. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST. LSU’s next game: vs. Alabama, Feb. 21. Texas’s next game: at Georgia, Feb. 21.
