Preview: Boston College at Florida State TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Interstat) — Two Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball teams looking to halt extended slides meet Tuesday when Boston College visits Florida State at the Donald L. Tucker Center. The Eagles (9-16) have lost six of their last seven games, including a 75-86 defeat to California on Saturday. Their lone victory in that stretch was a 65-62 home win over Pittsburgh on Jan. 21. Boston College has struggled offensively during the skid, failing to reach 70 points in five of those seven contests. Guard Fred Payne has been a consistent bright spot for Boston College. He is averaging 15.4 points over his last seven games, including a 16-point, 5-rebound performance against California. He scored 18 points in the win over Pittsburgh. The Seminoles (12-13) have been inconsistent but are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 92-69 road rout of Virginia Tech on Saturday. That victory snapped a two-game losing streak. Florida State is led by guard Martin Somerville, who erupted for 23 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in the win over the Hokies. His playmaking will be key against an Eagles defense that has allowed an average of 74.1 points during its 1-6 stretch. The Seminoles have shown a tendency for dramatic swings, from a 113-69 loss to North Carolina State to the 23-point road win at Virginia Tech. Home court has provided a slight edge, with Florida State going 8-6 at the Tucker Center this season. Boston College will need more production from its supporting cast around Payne. Jayden Hastings (12 points, 8 rebounds vs. California) and Boden Kapke have shown flashes but will need to contribute consistently to snap the Eagles’ road woes, where they are 2-7. This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Florida State will look to build momentum before a tough road test at Clemson on Saturday. Boston College continues a difficult stretch, facing SMU next. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. EST Tuesday.
