Preview: Nicholls State Colonels at Houston Christian Huskies HOUSTON (Interstat) ā Two Southland Conference teams looking to build on narrow weekend victories will meet Monday night when the Nicholls State Colonels visit the Houston Christian Huskies at Sharp Gymnasium. The Colonels (11-15) arrive after a 91-83 road win at Incarnate Word on Saturday, powered by a balanced attack. Zee Hamoda scored 18 points, Jalik Dunkley added 17 and Sincere Malone had 16 in the victory. Nicholls State has won three of its last five. Houston Christian (9-17) is coming off a dramatic 61-60 home win over New Orleans, also on Saturday. DāAundre Samuels led the Huskies with 15 points, including three blocks and three assists. The matchup features two of the conferenceās top recent performers. Hamoda, a key player for Nicholls State, is averaging 16.5 points over his last six games where he saw significant minutes. For the Huskies, Samuels has been a consistent force, scoring in double figures in seven of his last eight contests. In the seasonās first meeting on Dec. 17, Nicholls State defeated Houston Christian 79-64 in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The Colonels will aim for a regular-season sweep. Both teams have struggled for consistency this season but enter with momentum from weekend wins. The game could hinge on which supporting cast can step up behind the standout play of Hamoda and Samuels. Following this contest, Nicholls State will travel to face Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 21.
