Preview: Florida A&M Rattlers at Alcorn State Braves LORMAN, Miss. (Interstat) — Two SWAC men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Monday when the Florida A&M Rattlers visit the Alcorn State Braves at the Davey Whitney Complex. The matchup is a quick rematch from Jan. 24, when the host Rattlers (9-14) defeated the Braves (6-18) 66-58. Both teams enter on contrasting recent results. Florida A&M is looking to rebound from an 80-60 road loss at Jackson State on Saturday. Alcorn State, meanwhile, snapped a two-game skid with a narrow 57-55 home victory over Bethune-Cookman that same day. Florida A&M will lean on guard Micah Octave, who has been a consistent performer. He scored 16 points with six rebounds in the loss to Jackson State and is averaging 13.4 points over his last five games. His backcourt play will be pivotal for a Rattlers team that has shown offensive flashes, including a 100-point outing in a win over Prairie View on Feb. 9, but has also been held under 70 points in four of their last six contests. Alcorn State counters with guard Jameel Morris, who posted 14 points and three assists in the first meeting against FAMU. He is coming off an 8-point performance in the win over Bethune-Cookman and has dished 4.3 assists per game over his last three outings. The Braves will need more offensive production after averaging just 62.5 points in their last four games. The game features two of the lower-tier teams in the SWAC standings, making it a critical opportunity for either to build confidence for the final stretch of the regular season. Alcorn State will aim to protect its home floor and avenge January’s loss, while Florida A&M looks to complete a season sweep and climb back toward .500 in conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CST.
