BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Interstat) — The UAB Blazers will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their standing in the American Athletic Conference when they host the Tulane Green Wave on Sunday at Bartow Arena. UAB (16-9), coming off a 68-63 road win at Tulsa on Wednesday, holds a superior overall record and sits just over a month removed from an 82-69 victory over Tulane in New Orleans on Jan. 14. The Blazers have won three of their last four, leaning on a defense that has held opponents to 68 points or fewer in those three victories. A key factor will be the play of UAB forward Evan Chatman, who is coming off a strong all-around performance with 13 points, three assists and three blocks in 38 minutes against Tulsa. His versatility was on full display in the Feb. 8 win over Rice, where he grabbed 17 rebounds to go with 10 points. Tulane (13-10) arrives seeking to halt a two-game skid and avenge January’s loss. The Green Wave fell 75-61 to Wichita State at home on Feb. 8 in their last outing. Their success hinges largely on the offensive output of guard Rowan Brumbaugh, who has been a consistent high scorer. Brumbaugh poured in 35 points in a narrow loss at Charlotte on Jan. 23 and followed with 27 points in a road win at Memphis on Feb. 1. In the last meeting with UAB, however, Tulane managed only 69 points as a team. The Blazers have shown resilience at home in conference play, with recent wins over Rice and a narrow overtime victory against East Carolina last month. Tulane’s road form has been mixed, with a signature win at Memphis but losses in close contests at Charlotte and Florida Atlantic during a challenging January stretch. This matchup represents a crucial point in the AAC schedule for both teams as they jockey for postseason positioning. UAB will aim to protect its home court and build momentum before a tough road trip to Temple next Wednesday. Tulane, looking to climb back above .500 in league play, needs a statement road win, with a return home to face Rice awaiting next Sunday. Tip-off is set for Sunday afternoon at Bartow Arena.
