OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — Two teams riding winning streaks and locked in a mid-conference logjam will meet Sunday when the Denver Pioneers visit the Omaha Mavericks in a key men’s NCAA Division I matchup. Both teams enter the contest with identical 13-14 overall records, adding stakes to the rematch of Omaha’s 84-82 victory in Denver on Jan. 31. The Pioneers have won three straight, including a 79-61 home win over South Dakota State on Thursday. The Mavericks are coming off a 98-94 home victory over Saint Thomas (Minn.) the same night. Denver will lean on the hot hand of guard Carson Johnson, who has been a consistent offensive force. During the Pioneers’ three-game win streak, Johnson averaged 21.7 points and 5.0 assists, including a 23-point, 5-assist performance against South Dakota State. In the Jan. 31 loss to Omaha, Johnson scored 19 points with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Omaha counters with its own dynamic guard in Grant Stubblefield, who orchestrated the first win over Denver with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Stubblefield is fresh off a 22-point, 7-assist effort in the win over Saint Thomas. His backcourt battle with Johnson will be a focal point. The Mavericks’ earlier win was a narrow escape, and Denver has shown improved form since. Jeremiah Burke, who had 18 points against South Dakota State, provides secondary scoring for the Pioneers. Omaha’s Valentino Simon (21 points Thursday) and Ja’Sean Glover (22 points) offer potent support for Stubblefield. With both teams jockeying for position ahead of their conference tournaments, Sunday’s game offers a chance to break the season tie and gain momentum. Tip-off is set for Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Baxter Arena.
