CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — A surging Central Arkansas team will look to solidify its standing and complete a season sweep when it hosts West Georgia in an ASUN Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Farris Center. The Bears (16-10, 8-3 ASUN) have won seven straight games, including an 86-65 rout of the Wolves in Carrollton, Georgia, on Jan. 22. Guard Camren Hunter, a player to watch, had 12 points and six assists in that meeting and has been a driving force during the win streak. He is averaging 24.1 points over his last seven contests, including a 32-point performance in a win at Lipscomb on Feb. 7. West Georgia (12-13, 5-6) arrives with momentum from an 82-73 road win at North Alabama on Wednesday. Guard Josh Smith led the Wolves with 28 points in that victory and is averaging 18.4 points over his last five games. The Wolves will need a similar high-scoring effort from Smith and better overall execution to avenge January’s lopsided loss, where they were held to 36.2% shooting. Central Arkansas, currently second in the ASUN standings, has found its rhythm on both ends of the floor, averaging 86.1 points during its streak. Beyond Hunter, the Bears have gotten consistent contributions from Ty Robinson and Javion Guy-King. For West Georgia, staying competitive will require containing Hunter and improving its defensive focus after allowing 90 points in a loss to Florida Gulf Coast last month. Support for Smith will be critical; Shelton Williams-Dryden (21 points vs. North Alabama) and Malcolm Noel (16 points, six assists) provided needed help last time out. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon in Conway. Central Arkansas will look to maintain its push for a top conference tournament seed, while West Georgia aims to climb back to .500 and disrupt the Bears’ streak.
