CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Interstat) — Two Southern Conference men’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Saturday when the Chattanooga Mocs host the Western Carolina Catamounts at McKenzie Arena. The matchup features teams with nearly identical records. Chattanooga (10-16) holds a slight edge over Western Carolina (9-15) in the standings. The Mocs will look to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating the Catamounts 90-82 in Cullowhee, North Carolina, on Jan. 17. In that first meeting, Chattanooga guard Jordan Frison scored 19 points. He enters this game as a key player to watch, averaging 15.0 points over his last two contests, including a 24-point performance against The Citadel on Feb. 7. Western Carolina counters with guard Julien Soumaoro, who scored 17 points in the loss to Chattanooga last month. Soumaoro is coming off a 15-point effort in the Catamounts’ dominant 87-49 win over The Citadel on Wednesday, their most lopsided victory of the season. Both teams have struggled for consistency in conference play. Following its big win, Western Carolina will aim for its first two-game winning streak since late January. Chattanooga, meanwhile, has lost four of its last five games, including a 73-61 defeat at East Tennessee State on Wednesday. The game will tip off at approximately 4:30 p.m. EST on Feb. 14 as part of the Southern Conference schedule.
