RICHMOND, Va. (Interstat) — A surging VCU team looks to continue its dominance in the Capital City rivalry when the Rams visit the Richmond Spiders in an Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at Robins Center. The Rams (19-6) have won eight straight games, including a 77-69 victory over Richmond on Jan. 27 in the first meeting this season. VCU is coming off a 77-68 road win at La Salle on Wednesday, powered by 26 points from standout forward Lazar Djokovic. Djokovic has been a central figure in VCU’s streak, averaging 15.4 points during the run. He scored 14 points in the first matchup against Richmond and is coming off one of his best performances of the season. The Spiders (14-11) halted a five-game skid with an 82-70 home win over George Mason on Tuesday. Guard Aiden Argabright led the way with 14 points and four assists. Argabright was held to six points in the January loss at VCU. Richmond will aim to leverage its home court to split the season series and improve its conference standing. The Spiders have struggled for consistency in A-10 play, while VCU has positioned itself near the top of the league. The Rams have relied on a balanced attack alongside Djokovic, with guards Nyk Lewis and Jadrian Tracey providing scoring punch. VCU’s defense, which has held opponents under 70 points in five of the last eight games, will be tested by a Richmond offense that found rhythm against George Mason. Historically, the VCU-Richmond rivalry, known as the Capital City Classic, features intense contests regardless of record. The Rams have controlled the recent series, winning the last four meetings. Saturday’s game is a critical conference matchup for both teams as the regular season enters its final weeks. VCU seeks to solidify its place for a high seed in the A-10 tournament, while Richmond looks to build momentum and enhance its postseason résumé. Tipoff is set for Saturday afternoon at Robins Center.
