NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Vanderbilt team riding a six-game home winning streak will host a reeling Texas A&M squad looking to stop a three-game skid when the SEC men’s basketball rivals meet Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium. The No. 8-ranked Commodores (20-4, 7-4 SEC) have established themselves as a conference contender, highlighted by a dominant 80-55 victory over Kentucky last month. They return home after an 84-76 road win at Auburn on Tuesday, powered by a 25-point, six-assist performance from star guard Tyler Tanner. Tanner has been exceptional, averaging 26.7 points over his last three games, including a 37-point outing in a narrow 92-91 loss to Oklahoma on Feb. 7. Vanderbilt is 12-1 at home this season. The Aggies (17-7, 5-6) arrive in Nashville desperate for a resume-building win after a series of close defeats. They fell 100-97 at Alabama on Feb. 4, were blown out by Florida 86-67 on Feb. 7, and suffered a heartbreaking 86-85 home loss to Missouri on Wednesday. Texas A&M will lean on forward Zach Clemence, who scored 20 points in the loss to Missouri. Clemence has shown high-scoring potential, dropping 21 points against South Carolina on Jan. 24, but his production has been inconsistent during the team’s current slide. Vanderbilt won the season’s first meeting, 78-72, in College Station on Jan. 10. The Commodores are a 7.5-point favorite for the rematch, with an over/under set at 166 points. Saturday’s contest is the first of a challenging two-game stretch for Vanderbilt, which visits Missouri next Wednesday. Texas A&M continues a difficult road swing, heading to Oklahoma next Saturday.
