Preview: Southern Utah Thunderbirds at Texas-Arlington Mavericks ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — The Texas-Arlington Mavericks will look to complete a regular-season sweep and halt a three-game skid when they host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds in a Western Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Saturday at College Park Center. The Mavericks (14-9) have lost three straight, including an 81-60 defeat at Utah Valley last Saturday, but have historically held the upper hand in this matchup. Texas-Arlington defeated Southern Utah 80-61 at home on Jan. 29 and also won 86-77 in Cedar City on Jan. 3. Southern Utah (8-16) arrives having lost five of its last six, including a 62-59 home loss to Tarleton State last Saturday. The Thunderbirds’ lone win in that stretch was a 79-76 victory at Abilene Christian on Jan. 31. A key matchup will feature two of the WAC’s top guards. Southern Utah’s Elijah Duval is averaging 21.2 points and 5.5 assists over his last six games. He scored 29 points with seven rebounds in the win at Abilene Christian and had 18 points and seven assists against Tarleton State. However, he was held to 14 points in the Jan. 29 loss to the Mavericks. Texas-Arlington will counter with Tyran Mason, who is coming off a 20-point performance in the loss to Utah Valley. Mason’s production has been variable, but he scored 17 points in a double-overtime loss at Utah Tech on Feb. 5. He was limited to just three points in the earlier win over Southern Utah. The Mavericks have relied on a stronger defensive foundation and more consistent scoring balance this season. Southern Utah, while potent offensively with Duval leading the way, has struggled to string together stops, allowing 80 or more points in seven of their 16 losses. Tip-off is set for Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026. Following this game, Texas-Arlington will host Utah Tech on Thursday, while Southern Utah will travel to face Tarleton State.
