JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Interstat) — A Southern Conference rematch with postseason implications is set for Saturday when the East Tennessee State Buccaneers host the Samford Bulldogs at ETSU Athletic Center. The Buccaneers (19-7, 8-3), who sit near the top of the league standings, will look to complete a regular-season sweep after edging the Bulldogs 76-75 on Jan. 17. Samford (14-12, 6-5) seeks revenge and a crucial Quadrant 2 road win to bolster its conference tournament seeding. ETSU has won seven of its last eight games, most recently a 73-61 victory over Chattanooga on Wednesday. Jordan McCullum led the way with 24 points, continuing a strong stretch where he has averaged 17.1 points over his last seven contests. The Buccaneers’ defense, which held Samford to 41% shooting in the first meeting, will be tested again. Samford enters on a four-game winning streak, powered by one of the nation’s hottest scorers. Guard Jadin Booth is averaging 24.6 points over his last seven games, including a 25-point performance in a 97-80 rout of Wofford on Wednesday. In the narrow loss to ETSU last month, Booth scored 19 points and dished five assists. The Bulldogs’ offense, averaging 84.2 points in conference play, will clash with an ETSU squad allowing just 70.3 points per game in SoCon action. Samford’s supporting cast, including Cade Norris (17 points vs. Wofford) and Keaton Norris (14 points, 8 assists), must provide scoring balance. With both teams jockeying for position ahead of the SoCon Tournament in early March, this matchup offers high stakes. A win would solidify ETSU’s hold on a top-two seed, while a Samford victory would tighten the middle of the conference standings and avenging their earlier one-point defeat. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 14.
