SAN DIEGO (Interstat) ā A critical Mountain West Conference menās basketball matchup with postseason implications is set for Saturday when the San Diego State Aztecs host the Nevada Wolf Pack at Viejas Arena. Both teams enter the Valentineās Day clash with identical 17-win records, though San Diego State (17-6, 7-3 MW) holds a slight edge in the league standings over Nevada (17-7, 6-4). The game is a rematch of a Jan. 6 meeting in Reno, which the Aztecs won 73-68. The Wolf Pack, winners of three of their last four, are led by the conferenceās hottest scorer in guard Corey Camper. The junior is averaging 21.9 points per game in league play and is coming off a stretch of three 30-point performances in four games, including a 35-point effort in an overtime loss at Boise State on Feb. 3. In Nevadaās most recent win, a 69-59 victory over Fresno State, Camper logged 35 minutes and scored 15 points. San Diego State counters with its own standout guard in BJ Davis. The Aztecs have won two straight, including an 88-54 rout at Air Force on Feb. 7 where Davis scored 16 points in 24 minutes. Davis provides consistent backcourt production for an Aztecs squad that leads the Mountain West in scoring defense, allowing just 64.2 points per game. The matchup pits Nevadaās high-powered offense, averaging 78.6 points, against San Diego Stateās stifling defense. The Aztecs have won 11 of the last 12 meetings between the teams at Viejas Arena. A Nevada victory would create a logjam near the top of the conference standings, while a San Diego State win would solidify its hold on second place and bolster its NCAA tournament resume. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. PST tipoff and will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
