HAMILTON, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Navy team riding its longest winning streak in years will face a Colgate squad looking to protect its home court in a key Patriot League men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Cotterell Court. The Midshipmen (20-6, 10-1 Patriot) have won nine consecutive games, their latest a 76-60 road victory at Bucknell on Monday. They sit atop the conference standings and have not lost since Jan. 12. Colgate (16-10, 7-4), which has won three of its last four, aims to close the gap in the league race. The Raiders are coming off a 74-70 win at Holy Cross on Wednesday. Navy’s run has been fueled by the stellar play of junior guard Aidan Kehoe. Over his last eight games, Kehoe is averaging 19.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists. He posted 26 points and five assists in the win over Bucknell and had a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double against American on Feb. 7. Colgate will counter with senior forward Sam Wright, who has scored in double figures in eight straight contests. Wright is averaging 14.3 points per game during that stretch, including an 18-point performance against Holy Cross. The Midshipmen’s defense has been a cornerstone of their streak, holding opponents to an average of 60.2 points during the nine-game run. Colgate averages 75.2 points per game at home this season. Navy won the first meeting between the teams this season, 68-65, in Annapolis on Jan. 3. The teams will meet again in the regular-season finale at Navy on Feb. 28. Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST. Colgate will host Loyola Maryland on Feb. 21, while Navy is scheduled to host Lehigh on Feb. 18.
