LORETTO, Pa. (Interstat) — A Northeast Conference rematch with recent history tips off Saturday when the Mercyhurst Lakers visit the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash at DeGol Arena. The Lakers (12-14) will look to complete a regular-season sweep after outlasting the Red Flash (6-19) 98-89 in overtime just nine days prior on Feb. 5. In that high-scoring affair, Mercyhurst guard Jake Lemelman poured in 21 points, while Saint Francis (PA) counterpart Chris Moncrief answered with 22 points in a losing effort. Lemelman enters as Mercyhurst’s primary offensive catalyst. The guard is averaging 16.1 points over his last eight games, including a 21-point performance in the win over Saint Francis (PA). He is coming off a 12-point effort in a narrow 58-57 road loss to Le Moyne on Thursday. Moncrief has been a bright spot for the struggling Red Flash. He scored 22 points in the first meeting with Mercyhurst and is averaging 13.4 points over his last five contests. He led Saint Francis (PA) with 14 points in its most recent outing, a 66-59 loss at Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday. Both teams seek to halt slides in a matchup of the conference’s eighth- and tenth-place teams. The Lakers have dropped three of their last four, with each loss by six points or fewer. The Red Flash have lost four straight and 12 of their last 14 games overall. Defensive consistency will be a key factor. The first meeting saw both teams shoot above 47% from the field. Mercyhurst will aim to control the tempo after a low-possession, defensive struggle at Le Moyne. Saint Francis (PA) must find a way to get stops late; their last three losses have been by an average of just 5.3 points. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. EST start on Saturday, Feb. 14.
