CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — A pivotal ASUN Conference matchup awaits on Saturday when the Lipscomb Bisons visit the Queens (N.C.) Royals at Levine Center. Both teams enter the Valentine’s Day contest looking to build momentum for the final stretch of the regular season. Lipscomb (16-10) sits above Queens (14-12) in the conference standings and is coming off a 75-61 home win over Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. The Royals are looking to rebound after a 95-87 loss to Austin Peay the same night. The game features two of the league’s dynamic scorers. Lipscomb’s Charlie Williams is a key barometer for the Bisons. The guard is coming off an efficient 18-point, 3-block performance in 22 minutes against EKU. He has scored 18 or more points in three of his last six games, including a 22-point outing at Jacksonville on Jan. 29. Queens will counter with Jordan Watford, who is playing his best basketball of the season. The guard erupted for a career-high 26 points in the loss to Austin Peay, adding four assists. Over his last three games, Watford is averaging 17 points and five assists per contest, providing a major spark for the Royals’ offense. The Bisons have shown resilience on the road this season, with notable wins at North Florida and Florida Gulf Coast. Their offense, which put up 100 points in that win over the Ospreys, will test a Queens defense that has allowed an average of 90 points in its last two losses. Queens, however, has been strong at home in Charlotte, boasting recent dominant wins over North Florida (91-72) and Jacksonville (93-84). The Royals will need to leverage that home-court advantage to slow down a Lipscomb attack that features multiple weapons, including Mateo Esmeraldo, who dished out eight assists in the midweek win. This contest is the only scheduled meeting between the programs this season. Following this game, Lipscomb will prepare for a road trip to Bellarmine on Feb. 18, while Queens will travel to face North Alabama the same day.
