HARTFORD, Conn. (Interstat) — The No. 1-ranked Connecticut Huskies look to continue their dominant season when they host the Georgetown Hoyas in a Big East Conference men’s basketball matchup on Saturday, Feb. 14, at XL Center. UConn (23-2, 13-1 Big East) enters on a blistering pace, having won 10 of its last 11 games. Their lone conference loss came at St. John’s on Feb. 6. The Huskies are coming off an 80-70 road win at Butler on Wednesday, powered by a 24-point performance from guard Solo Ball. Ball has been a key scorer, averaging 17.4 points over his last seven contests. Georgetown (13-11, 7-6) arrives seeking a season-defining upset and redemption after a narrow 64-62 loss to the Huskies in Washington on Jan. 17. The Hoyas have lost two of their last three, including a 73-70 home defeat to Villanova last Saturday. Their recent success has been fueled by forward Vincent Iwuchukwu, who is averaging a double-double of 14.1 points and 10.0 rebounds over his last seven games. In the first meeting with UConn, Iwuchukwu recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup pits one of the nation’s elite teams against a program striving for consistency. UConn’s balanced attack, which also features productive performances from Tarris Reed Jr. and Silas Demary Jr., will test a Georgetown defense that allows 71.2 points per game. The Hoyas will need another major outing from Iwuchukwu and efficient scoring from guards Malik Mack and KJ Lewis to challenge the Huskies on the road. This marks the only scheduled meeting in Hartford this season between the historic conference rivals. UConn holds a commanding position atop the Big East standings, while Georgetown sits in the middle of the pack, needing quality wins to bolster its postseason resume. Following this game, Connecticut will host Creighton on Feb. 18, while Georgetown will host Butler on the same date.
