JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — A narrow defeat from just over two weeks ago will be fresh in the minds of the Florida A&M Rattlers when they visit the Jackson State Tigers in a SWAC men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Lee Williams Athletic Center. The Tigers (7-17) escaped with a 66-65 road win over the Rattlers (9-13) on Jan. 26, a result that typifies the close margins and struggles for consistency that have defined both teams’ seasons. Florida A&M enters having snapped a three-game skid with a 100-96 home victory over Prairie View on Monday. Jordan Chatman led the way with 18 points off the bench, continuing a stretch of solid performances. Over his last eight games, Chatman is averaging 11.6 points, including a 16-point effort in the earlier loss to Jackson State. The Rattlers will look to him and backcourt mates like Micah Octave and Jaquan Sanders, who combined for 24 points and 10 assists against Prairie View, to generate offense on the road. Jackson State, meanwhile, seeks to rebound from an 84-63 road loss at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday. The Tigers have shown a high ceiling offensively, scoring 97 and 94 points in wins earlier this month, but have also been held under 70 points in four of their last seven outings. Guard Dorian McMillian provides a dynamic scoring threat for the Tigers. He poured in 24 points in the loss to Pine Bluff and has eclipsed 20 points in three of his last six contests, including a 25-point performance in a win over Texas Southern on Jan. 19. Both teams reside in the lower half of the conference standings, making this a critical game for momentum heading into the final weeks of the regular season. The rematch promises another tightly contested affair, with Florida A&M aiming for payback and Jackson State fighting to protect its home court and complete a season sweep. The game is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. CST tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 14.
