Army Seeks Revenge Against American in Patriot League Showdown WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Army Black Knights look to avenge a January loss and snap a four-game skid when they visit the American Eagles in a Patriot League men’s basketball matchup Saturday at Bender Arena. Army (10-16) enters on a downturn, having lost its last four contests, including an 85-68 defeat to Boston University on Wednesday. The Black Knights’ last victory was a 69-68 nail-biter over Holy Cross on Jan. 31. American (13-13) has also struggled recently, dropping five of its last six games. The Eagles are coming off a 90-82 road loss at Lehigh on Wednesday. The Eagles won the first meeting this season, 78-67, at West Point on Jan. 18. In that game, American’s defense held Army to 38.6% shooting from the field. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top scorers. Army’s Jacen Holloway, who poured in 21 points in the first game against American, is averaging 17.5 points over his last two outings. He scored 19 in the loss to Boston U. American will counter with guard Geoff Sprouse, who is coming off a 21-point performance at Lehigh. Sprouse was held to six points in the earlier win over Army but contributed three assists. For Army, reversing its recent fortunes will require improved offensive consistency after scoring 68 or fewer points in three of its four consecutive losses. Ryan Curry, who dished six assists Wednesday, will be tasked with facilitating the attack. American has found more success at home this season and will rely on its balance. Alongside Sprouse, Madden Collins (16 points vs. Lehigh) and Matt Mayock provide additional scoring threats. The game is critical for both teams’ positioning ahead of the Patriot League tournament next month. Army sits near the bottom of the standings, while American looks to climb back to .500 in conference play. Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST. Army visits Loyola Maryland next Wednesday, while American travels to face Bucknell.
