Preview of Friday’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Game ALBANY, N.Y. (Interstat) — A pivotal Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup featuring two of the league’s hottest teams will unfold Friday when the Quinnipiac Bobcats visit the Siena Saints at Times Union Center. Both teams enter with identical 17-win seasons, though Siena (17-8) holds a slight edge in winning percentage over Quinnipiac (17-9). The contest is a key moment in the MAAC standings as the regular season enters its final stretch. The Bobcats arrive on a three-game winning streak, most recently edging Niagara 56-55 on Saturday. Their success is fueled by forward Amarri Monroe, who is playing at an all-conference level. Over his last eight games, Monroe is averaging 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds, including a 23-point, 13-rebound performance in a win at Fairfield on Feb. 1 and a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double against Niagara. Siena saw a five-game win streak snapped in a 70-65 loss at Saint Peter’s last Saturday. The Saints are led by guard Francis Folefac, who has been a consistent force. In the loss to Saint Peter’s, Folefac filled the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds and seven assists. During the team’s recent win streak, he averaged 13.4 points and 4.4 assists. Quinnipiac’s recent surge has been built on defense, holding its last three opponents to an average of 60 points per game. Siena counters with a balanced attack that has seen four different players lead the team in scoring over the past six games, including Gavin Doty’s 19-point outing last Saturday. The Bobcats won the first meeting this season, 85-77, in Hamden on Jan. 19. Monroe scored 13 points with seven rebounds in that victory, while Folefac had nine points and four assists for Siena. Friday’s winner will secure a valuable conference victory and momentum heading into the final weeks before the MAAC tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
