BUFFALO, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Iona Gaels visit the Canisius Golden Griffins on Friday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup featuring teams heading in opposite directions. Iona (14-11) has lost three straight, including a 76-83 home defeat to Mount Saint Mary’s on Feb. 7, but remains above .500. Canisius (8-17) has dropped seven consecutive games, with its last win coming on Jan. 4. The Gaels will look to rediscover their form against a familiar foe. They dominated the first meeting this season, a 74-48 victory at home on Jan. 11. Iona has struggled since, however, going 3-5 in its last eight contests. A key player for Iona is guard Lamin Sabally, who is coming off a 20-point performance in the loss to Mount Saint Mary’s. He has been inconsistent lately, scoring in single digits in three of his last five games after an 18-point, 5-assist effort against Merrimack on Jan. 22. Canisius will lean on guard Bryan Ndjonga, who has been a bright spot during the losing streak. He has scored 19 or more points in three of his last five games, including a 23-point outing at Niagara on Feb. 3. Sustaining offense has been an issue for the Golden Griffins, who have not topped 70 points in their last four games. The game will be played at the Koessler Athletic Center. Following this contest, Iona travels to face Niagara on Sunday, Feb. 15. Canisius remains at home to host Manhattan that same day. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
