Weber State, Idaho Set for Big Sky Rematch CALDWELL, Idaho (Interstat) — A pivotal Big Sky Conference men’s basketball rematch is set for Thursday when the Idaho Vandals host the Weber State Wildcats at Idaho Central Credit Union Arena. Idaho (13-11, 4-7 Big Sky) looks to complete a regular-season sweep after defeating Weber State (12-13, 5-6) 75-67 in Ogden on Jan. 17. The Vandals have lost three straight since that victory, however, including a 73-68 defeat at Montana last Saturday. Weber State arrives with momentum from a 72-53 home win over Northern Arizona on Feb. 7, which snapped a two-game skid. The Wildcats sit just a half-game behind the Vandals in the conference standings, making this a crucial contest for postseason positioning. The matchup features two of the league’s top scorers. Weber State guard Tijan Saine has been on a tear, averaging 22.4 points and 4.9 assists over his last eight games. He scored 25 in the first meeting with Idaho. Vandal guard Biko Johnson, who torched the Wildcats for 26 points in the January win, is coming off a 22-point performance at Montana. Idaho’s defense, which held Weber State to 37.7% shooting in the first game, will again focus on containing Saine. The Wildcats will need more offensive support beyond their star, with Nigel Burris (13 points vs. NAU) as a key secondary option. For Idaho, consistency is the challenge after alternating wins and losses for much of the conference slate. Johnson’s scoring is vital, but support from players like Jack Payne and Isaiah Brickner will be necessary against a Weber State team seeking revenge. The game tips off at 7 p.m. MST Thursday. Idaho travels to face Idaho State on Saturday, while Weber State visits Eastern Washington.
