Vermont Looks to Sweep Season Series at Struggling Binghamton VESTAL, N.Y. (Interstat) â The Vermont Catamounts visit the Binghamton Bearcats on Thursday night in an America East Conference menâs basketball matchup featuring teams at opposite ends of the league standings. Vermont (15-10, 8-4 America East) enters riding momentum from an 80-57 rout of New Hampshire last Saturday. The Catamounts have won four of their last six and sit in contention for a top conference tournament seed. Binghamton (5-20, 3-9) seeks to end a two-game skid and replicate the narrow loss it suffered in Burlington last month. The Bearcats fell 60-59 at Vermont on Jan. 8, a game decided in the final possession. A key matchup will feature Vermontâs versatile forward Gus Yalden against Binghamtonâs high-usage guard Jeremiah Quigley. Yalden is coming off a strong performance against New Hampshire with 16 points and eight rebounds in 26 minutes. Over his last five games, the forward is averaging 13.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. Quigley has been a workhorse for the Bearcats, logging 40 minutes in three of his last four contests. He nearly posted a triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a loss to UMBC on Feb. 5, and followed that with 15 points and eight assists at NJIT. Vermontâs offense showed balance in its latest win, with Ben Johnson scoring a game-high 26 points and Sean Blake adding 11 points and seven assists alongside Yaldenâs effort. The Catamounts will aim to control the tempo against a Binghamton team that has struggled defensively, allowing 79.2 points per game in conference play. Binghamtonâs last win was a 63-60 victory over Bryant on Jan. 29, a game in which Quigley scored 21 points. The Bearcats will need similar production from him and efficient support from players like Stephan Snagg and Jackson Benigni to challenge the more consistent Catamounts. Thursdayâs game at the Binghamton University Events Center is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Vermont hosts Bryant on Saturday, while Binghamton remains home to face Albany.
