TULSA, Okla. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt prolonged slides will meet Thursday when the Missouri-Kansas City Kangaroos visit the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in a Summit League men’s basketball matchup. The game at the Mabee Center pits UMKC (4-20) against Oral Roberts (5-20), with both squads mired in extended losing streaks. The Kangaroos have dropped nine consecutive games, while the Golden Eagles have lost 10 straight. UMKC is coming off a heartbreaking 82-75 overtime loss to South Dakota on Feb. 4. In that game, guard Chris Dockery scored 17 points, continuing a run of solid offensive form. Over his last seven contests, Dockery is averaging 9.7 points and has scored in double figures four times, including a 17-point performance against the Coyotes. He will be a focal point for a Kangaroos offense that has struggled, failing to reach 70 points in any game during their nine-game skid. Oral Roberts fell 92-75 at Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Feb. 7. Guard Connor Dow led the Golden Eagles with 20 points in that defeat, showcasing his scoring ability. Dow has been a bright spot, averaging 11.4 points per game over his last seven outings and topping 20 points twice in that span. He will be counted on to spark an Oral Roberts team that has found consistent wins hard to come by all season. The matchup represents one of the more winnable opportunities remaining on each team’s conference schedule. Both defenses have had difficulties, with UMKC allowing an average of 82.1 points during its losing streak and Oral Roberts giving up 84.2 points per game during its 10-game slide. Historically, Oral Roberts holds a commanding lead in the series, but both programs are in clear rebuilding phases this season. The game will be the first of two meetings between the teams in February, with the rematch scheduled for Feb. 28 in Kansas City. Following this contest, UMKC will host Saint Thomas (Minn.) on Saturday. Oral Roberts is set to host South Dakota State on Saturday.
