The Tritons (16-9 overall) enter with a slim one-game edge over the Aggies (15-9) in the conference standings. UC San Diego won the first meeting this season, 80-74, in Davis on Jan. 22. Both teams are looking to rebound from recent results. The Tritons are coming off a 72-67 road loss at Hawaii on Feb. 7, despite 14 points from guard Tom Beattie. The Aggies, meanwhile, have won three of their last four, including a 67-58 home victory over Cal Poly on Feb. 7. UC Davis will lean on the hot hand of guard Marcus Wilson. He scored 24 points in each of his last two outings, including the win over Cal Poly, and tallied 17 points and five assists in the January loss to the Tritons. For UC San Diego, Beattie has been a consistent contributor. He logged 14 points against Hawaii and was part of the balanced attack that secured the earlier win over Davis, where four Tritons scored in double figures. The matchup features two of the league’s more efficient offenses. UC Davis has scored 80 or more points in four of its last seven games. UC San Diego’s defense, which held the Aggies to 41% shooting in the first meeting, will be tested again. The game is a critical part of the final stretch before the Big West tournament. Following this contest, UC Davis hosts Long Beach State on Saturday, while UC San Diego welcomes UC Riverside.
