CHICAGO (Interstat) β Two teams seeking momentum in the final stretch of the season will meet Thursday when the Stonehill Skyhawks visit the Chicago State Cougars in a non-conference menβs basketball game organized by the Northeast Conference. The matchup at Jones Convocation Center features teams with a combined record of 13-36. Stonehill (8-16) arrives after a 54-61 loss at Long Island on Saturday. Chicago State (5-20) enters riding a rare two-game winning streak following an 80-75 home victory over Saint Francis (PA) on Monday. The Cougars have been sparked by guard Marcus Tankersley, who averaged 19 points and four assists in the two recent wins. He leads a backcourt that also features Braelon Bush, who scored 19 points in the win over Saint Francis. Stonehill will counter with forward Ridvan Tutic, who is coming off a 9-point, 11-rebound performance against Long Island. His interior presence will be key against a Chicago State team that has shown improved offensive output, scoring an average of 71.5 points during its current streak. This is a rematch of a thrilling overtime game from Jan. 10, when Stonehill edged Chicago State 85-82 in Easton, Massachusetts. The Cougars will look to avenge that loss on their home floor, where they are 3-2 in their last five games after starting the season 0-9 at home. Both teams have struggled in close games this season, with several losses by single digits. Stonehill has shown an ability to grind out wins, as evidenced by victories over Fairleigh Dickinson and Central Connecticut last month, but consistency has been an issue. For Chicago State, the brief winning streak represents a chance to build confidence. The Cougars had lost 11 straight prior to the back-to-back wins. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST Thursday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
