EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball matchup awaits Thursday afternoon at Vadalabene Center as the SIU Edwardsville Cougars host the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. Both teams enter with winning records and momentum. The Cougars (16-9) sit a game ahead of the Redhawks (15-10) in the conference standings and will look to protect their home court after a 71-61 road win at Arkansas-Little Rock last Saturday. The Redhawks are riding a four-game winning streak, including a dominant 90-65 victory over Southern Indiana on Feb. 7. The game features a compelling rematch from just over three weeks ago. On Jan. 17, SIU Edwardsville traveled to Cape Girardeau and secured a decisive 68-55 win, holding Southeast Missouri State to a season-low in points. The Redhawks have not lost since. Key to the Redhawks’ resurgence has been the play of Brendan Terry. The guard is averaging 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists over his last three games, including a 22-point, 8-rebound, 5-assist performance against Southern Indiana. His versatility will be central to Southeast Missouri’s offensive plans. SIU Edwardsville counters with floor general Jack Campion, who orchestrated the previous win over the Redhawks with 9 points and 6 assists. Campion is coming off a 16-point, 8-assist outing at Little Rock and has been a consistent facilitator for the Cougars’ attack. For Southeast Missouri, avenging the earlier loss and extending their win streak is the priority. SIU Edwardsville aims to complete the season sweep and solidify its position near the top of the OVC standings. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. EST Thursday.
