DENTON, Texas (Interstat) β€” Two American Athletic Conference teams hovering near .500 will meet Thursday afternoon when the Memphis Tigers visit the North Texas Mean Green. The matchup at North Texas Coliseum features teams with nearly identical records. Memphis (12-11) has won two straight, including a 77-54 rout of Charlotte on Sunday. North Texas (13-11) is coming off an 81-58 road win at Texas-San Antonio on Feb. 7. Memphis will look to continue its momentum behind forward Julius Thedford, who is coming off a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Charlotte. Over his last six games, Thedford is averaging 8.2 points and 5.2 rebounds. The Mean Green counter with forward Dylan Arnett, who also posted a double-double in his last outing with 14 points and 12 rebounds against UTSA. Arnett has scored in double figures in three of his last five games. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. Memphis won the first matchup 57-48 at home on Dec. 31. In that game, the Tigers’ defense held North Texas to its lowest scoring output of the season. Since that loss, the Mean Green have gone 7-7. Memphis has struggled for consistency in conference play, posting a 5-6 record within the AAC since the calendar turned to January. The Tigers have shown a recent uptick, winning three of their last five. North Texas has split its last six contests, with all three losses coming by six points or fewer. Following this game, Memphis faces a quick turnaround with a non-conference road test at Utah State on Saturday. North Texas continues its homestand against Temple on Sunday.
